Filter Sets.

Along with the photographic selection of lenses there are also some physical constraints. All of our standard lenses, with the exception of the 8mm and 16mm, have 52mm filter threads. This allows us to offer a very competitive set of standard filters principally, but not exclusively, tailored to stop-motion animation photography.
The set contains a rubber lens hood, 1 x Diff 1, 1 x Diff 2, a set of Diopters, (1, +2, +4) a Circular Polarizer and a UV filter.

The rubber lens hood provides a short area of shade to the front element, helping to limit possible flares. Being rubber there is less chance of damage to puppets, models or product beauty packs in very tight close up work.

The diffusion filters will add a layer of atmosphere, softening the subject in scenes with a strongly romantic or glamour content. They are additive so that Diff 3 is obtained simply by screwing both filters onto the lens.

The diopters increase the magnification power of the lens for increased close-up capacity. They are also additive and further powers can be made up by using diopter combinations.

The polarizer is very useful for accentuating contrast. For instance, emphasising white clouds against a pale blue sky, or lifting fair hair on pale skin.

The UV filter is effectively transparent and is included in the set to provide protection to the front element if there is a risk of water spray, atmospheric dust or FX smoke condensate, and the like, soiling the lens.

Care should be taken when using additive filters not to build a tube on the front of the lens that may result in vignetting, especially on wider angle lenses. If vignetting is the required effect, we can offer glassless filter rings which can be screwed together to produce the desired result.

Note that linear polarizers are not suitable for use with digital cameras as they optically interfere with the regular structure of the sensor.

We are delighted to be able to cater to all other filter and ‘before-the-lens’ effects upon request.
